Stronger Safer Communities Fund
In 2005 Government awarded over £3.5m additional funding to be spent in Weston-super-Mare South Ward.
The funding was awarded for work in particular areas identified by the 2004 Indices of Multiple Deprivation of the Department for Communities & Local Government (formerly the Office of The Deputy Prime Minister).
Funding is in two parts:
- Safer and Stronger Communities Fund - Neighbourhood Element. Almost £1.6m in revenue funding to be used over four years from April 2006 to improve quality of life for people in Weston-super-Mare South Ward and to ensure service providers are more responsive to neighbourhood needs
- Cleaner, Safer, Greener. £2.1m of capital funding to be used over two years from April 2006 to support improvement in the external environment, creating cleaner, safer and greener public spaces.
The NSP set up a Sub-Group in 2005 to oversee the initial development of this work for South Ward, Weston-super-Mare.
Although the Board continues to monitor this work, the work programme is now directed by the Neighbourhood Management Board. The Neighbourhood Management Board brings together representatives from agencies working in the area and local residents.
