Nationally, alcohol misuse and related harm is a growing concern and is recognised as the single largest factor influencing community wellbeing.

Locally, alcohol misuse is estimated to cost NHS North Somerset over £3million in healthcare costs each year.

The North Somerset Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy 2008-2011 (pdf, 707k) is a multi-agency plan setting out clear aims and actions in relation to alcohol related harm and misuse within North Somerset. Its core aim is to reduce alcohol related harm across the district and resond to local need.

The Strategy combines innovative ways of working with established programmes to tackle alcohol harm and misuse in a coordinated way. It identifies local issues and addresses gaps in service provision.
